This Miscreant’s Dictionary defines “illuminati.”

illuminati

1. individuals who claim to be extraordinarily enlightened on a particular subject and who are generally arrogantly unwilling to share their supposed insights

2. (Illuminati) a. any of various groups who claim special enlightenment, esp. religious {examples:  Opus Dei, the Promise Keepers, Ralph Nader supporters} b. any of various groups who have been accused of desiring to _fnord take over the country and/or the world {examples:  the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, Brain of Pinky and the Brain}
