The Miscreant’s Dictionary:  “Bowdlerize”

The Miscreant’s Dictionary word for today is “bowdlerize.”

bowdlerize

1. to remove obscene or objectionable material from something prior to publication

2. something done to R-rated movies and that, if done without the assistance of the movie’s director, may destroy the very nature of the film

I went to university with an M. Bowdler, relative of the original Thomas Bowdler. He wrote for the SU paper and often needed Bowdlerizing himself.
