I’m going to see The Golden Compass in the theater. It’s a big enough deal that I’m going to find a sitter for my kids. But I might have forgotten all about the movie it it hadn’t been for all the free publicity that it’s garnered because of the proposed Christian boycott.

Fellow Scholars & Rogues blogger Sam Smith has been looking recently at the language of the Republican Party and has put up an amazing post about how to reframe the debate so that the GOP is revealed for what it really is - a party of hoarding aristocrats who are exploiting and oppressing everyone else, including most of the rest of their own party, to serve their selfish interests.

A Proposal for a Progressive Agenda

Progressives have been criticized, sometimes fairly and sometimes not, for not having a coherent agenda that they could unify around. It’s time this changed, and this agenda is something that progressives can, and should, adopt.

Hypocrisy and religion

I’m not a big fan of hypocrisy, even though I consider it to be fundamental to human nature. But not all hypocrisy is created equal, and one of the kinds I have the least tolerance for is religious hypocrisy.
